Douglas Lagarry

February 13, 1943 — December 12, 2017

Douglas Edward LaGarry, formerly of Massena NY, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, December 12th 2017. He was 74 years old. Doug will be cremated per his wishes and there will be a private service to be held among family members in the spring of 2018. Donations in his name can be made to any local hospice care organization.

Douglas is survived by 3 sons: Darin (Massena, NY), Damon (Las Cruces, NM), and Hannan (Chadron, NE) and daughter Karen (Noblesville, IN), 2 step sons, 3 brothers all in Brasher Falls NY: Mark Nezezon, Michael Nezezon and Matt Nezezon, a sister: Leslie Hopsicker (Norwood, NY), and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins.

Douglas was born in Massena, NY to Eunice LaGarry and Douglas Wilson in 1943. Douglas graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in 1961. He then married Patricia Pelsue in 1961 and began working shortly thereafter for the Reynolds Aluminum plant in Massena for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2002.

Patricia and Douglas had 4 children and were divorced in 1984. Douglas was then married to Deborah Dorsch in 1988 and helped raise two boys. The couple divorced some time later.

Douglas relocated from the Massena NY area in 2002 to live in the Oglalla Grasslands in Nebraska near his oldest son Hannan and his wife Leigh Anne. He participated in numerous archaeological and paleontological digs with his son in the Nebraska Badlands, living out his dream of being in the wild west with the big sky and sagebrush. While there he developed a few deep friendships with Lisa Farrington and Mike and Linda Kesselring who visited with him frequently up until his death. The LaGarry family is eternally grateful for the companionship they provided during his later years.

Douglas enjoyed photography, motorcycles, crossword puzzles, camping, and reading Louis L'amour novels.
