Florence Hindman
April 30, 1933 - August 13, 2017
Florence Marie Hindman, age 84, of Hay Springs, NE, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017, surrounded by the love of her family and the caring staff at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home.

Florence was born on April 30, 1933 at Rushville, NE, the third child of Valentine Andrew and Mary Wilhelmina (Bos) Nadobny, joining her sister Margaret Ann (Dreyer) and brother William Albert, with younger brother John Valentine born in 1937. She grew up on several farms and ranches that the family rented south of Hay Springs and Rushville, including the Old Jules Sandoz River Place, before the family purchased the ranch 7 miles south of Rushville, which John owns today.

Florence attended grade school at several rural schools in the area and graduated from Rushville High School in 1950. While in high school, she completed Normal Training to be qualified as a rural school teacher, and after graduation, Florence taught many students in one-room schoolhouses in the Sandhills, coming home on weekends and summers to help the family on the ranch. In the mid-1950's, she moved to Kansas City and worked for Northwestern Bell for a few years, and returned to help with the ranch before her father died in 1957.

Florence married the love of her life, William Delmer Hindman, on September 5, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rushville. They made their home on the family farm after Delmer's parents moved to Rushville. Here they raised two sons, Timothy William, born June 4, 1963, and Anthony John, born February 3, 1969.

Over the years, Florence worked at several places in addition to helping on the farm, including the Sheridan County Extension Office, Sheridan County Superintendent of Schools, the Sale Barn Café in Rushville, cleaning the Catholic church, and babysitting for beloved nieces, nephews, and grandson Sam. She was also active in the Immaculate Conception Altar Society, serving as an officer and working at the annual St. Patrick's Smorgasbord and Fall Bazaars. Florence shared the fruits of her labors on the farm by selling eggs, fresh cream, and butchered chickens to many customers and local groceries. She also canned fruits and vegetables to share with the extended family.

Delmer and Florence were blessed to be able to live on the farm for 56 years before moving to Parkview Lodge Assisted Living in Rushville in Fall, 2015. They shared a room there and were very active in daily activities until October 12, 2016, when health and safety concerns required a move to Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs for increased care. She remained at Pioneer Manor after Delmer's death on October 14, 2016, surrounded by many friends and the loving care of the staff.

Florence was preceded in death by Delmer, her loving husband of 57 years, her parents, father and mother-in-law William Clyde and Ardena (Peters) Hindman, brother Bill and Verna Nadobny, sister Margaret and Richard Dreyer, brother-in-law Dean and Lorraine Hindman, son Tim and Toni Hindman, granddaughters Jessica Eileen and Ardena Pauline Hindman, niece Irene Dreyer, niece Eileen and Butch Riggs, nephew Jim Hindman, great-nephew Mike Dreyer, and many cousins and neighbors.
Those remaining to mourn her loss, but celebrate her life are son Tony and daughter-in-law Amy, and grandson Sam Michael, all of Hay Springs, brother John and Loreen Nadobny, many nieces and nephews, and good friends and neighbors.

A rosary will be held Thursday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rushville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Rushville, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of plants or flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Florence's memory to support an upcoming window project at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, P.O. Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
