Biography

Mary Frances Buckles, 82, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Countryside Care in Gordon, NE. Mary Frances was born August 6, 1927, in Vernon, TX to Francis Emery and Helen Swanson. She graduated from high school Edmond, OK in 1945 and went to work as a telephone operator in Guthrie, OK where she met her future husband, Bob, in the drugstore.
Mary Frances married Bob Buckles on January 16, 1947. Mary Frances and Bob made their home in Merriman, NE where Bob entered into the gas station business. Bob and Mary raised two children, Robert Glen and Michael Lynn. Mary Frances taught school in the 1960’s, 70’s, and 80’s as a kindergarten teacher in Martin, SD and an elementary teacher in Merriman.
Mary Frances took great pleasure in her family, friends, and colleagues. She enjoyed music, especially the piano, and flowers around her home.
Survivors include her two sons and their families; Robert Glen and wife Cindy, children, Angie and her husband Mark VonHeeder and their two children, Sami and Macey; and Tony and wife Christina all of Ainsworth, NE. Michael Lynn and wife Kim of Broken Bow, NE and sons, Jason of Martin, SD and Tigh of Lincoln, NE. Also surviving are Mary Frances’ brothers and sisters, Kenneth, Charles, Jerry, and Tom and families of Guthrie, OK; Rita, and Relta and families of Oklahoma City, OK; Mike and family of Tyler, TX; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, relatives and neighbors.
