Al Weibel

January 10, 1942 — November 7, 2018

This is the story of one Albert Henry Weibel

Albert or "Al" as he was known to most, was born in New York City to Albert Charles Weibel and Madeline Marie (Reister) on Jan 10th 1942. He was welcomed to this world by his older brother Charles Albert & older sister Madeline Marie.

Al attended St Pius Elementary and finished his coursework in 1955. If you ask "Snookie" though his true education was learned growing up running streets of the Bronx.

He then attended All Hallows where he participated in baseball & track. Having graduated in summer 1959 he chose to enlist in the Air Force at that time.

During his stint in the military he pursued a background in Medical Technology; mainly being assigned to the Alaska and Idaho regions. While in Idaho Al met several individuals that would become known as family. Maurice Pennington was stationed with him and they struck up a lifelong friendship. Al also met the acquaintance of a young lady from Kellog, Idaho. Knowing this was the right person Launa Erwin became his bride on January 18th 1964.

After his honorable discharge Nov. 22, 1963 from the United States Air Force Al and Launa chose to relocate back to New York.

While living and working in New York Al was working on his education at CW Post while supporting a family.  Desiring to begin a new life Al and Launa decided to adopt the 1st of four children.  Laura Catherine Marie started the expansion package with Albert Charles Erwin following.  Shortly after bringing in Chuck, Al graduated from CW Post in Long Island New York with Bachelors of Science in Medical Technology in 1972.  Needing another challenge Andrew Henry Lee was combined to the mix with Adam Scott Edward finalizing the now much larger clan.

Not long after bringing in Adam the family decided to abandon the coast and move inland to Gordon NE in 1979.  There they settled in; searching for a better and safer quality of life.  Always the family man Al worked at Gordon Memorial Hospital and continued with school; at which time he obtained a Master of Science in Hospital Administration from CW Post in 1981. Tragedy then hit the Weibel family when on Dec. 30th 1984 when Launa suddenly passed away.

Al struggling with the loss and trying to raise four children tried to find love again and someone who could help raise the kids.  Al entered into a relationship at that time with Anna Janssen; and what was a family of five became a tribe of nine with Clay Mathew, Daniel Jacob and Gary Theodore adding to the Weibel's.  In 1987 the family left Gordon and moved to Rushville.  Due to the strains of too many children under one roof and the grind that accompanied it; the relationship ended and both families went their separate ways.

At this time Al found sobriety and someone else that was looking for changes in her life and on May 16, 1992 Kimberly Ann Beattie and Al were married, Al and Kim stayed in Rushville until relocating back to Gordon in 1996.  During this time, they enjoyed watching the family and locals in sports, umpiring, traveling and Kim introduced Al to the sport of golf.

Al and Kim enjoyed life as the old man eventually retired from IHS in Pine Ridge; but never one to stop Al continued taking contract work all the way up until his passing.  On May 6th 2014 tragedy struck again for the Weibel family as Kim suddenly passed away.

Luckily for Al he found someone that he could enjoy seeing his grandchildren and nieces and nephews with in Shirley Larson.  They enjoyed traveling and her attempt to turn him into a rancher.  Shirley was a blessing, as she would be around as Al entered into his next challenge.

Not long after Father’s Day of 2018 Al was diagnosed with Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma and after a hard-fought courageous short battle Al succumbed at 11:55 am on Nov. 7th 2018 at Gordon Memorial Hospital.
