Arnie Fankhauser

Arnold “Arnie” Fankhauser, age 78, of Chadron, Nebraska, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 14, 2026. He was born on July 5, 1948, in Gordon, Nebraska to Ray and Jean Fankhauser.

Arnie graduated from Chadron High School, served three years in the United States Army as a postal clerk in Germany and Vietnam, and retired from Chadron Post Office after thirty-two years of service. Arnie will be remembered for the life he built centered on service, faith, humor, and a deep love for those who he held close.

Arnie is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Jean Fankhauser; infant brother, Donny Fankhauser; and son, Jeffrey Fankhauser.

Arnie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Allie Fankhauser; daughter, Michelle (Coy) Hunter of Rapid City, SD; brothers, Jim (Terry) Fankhauser of Black Hawk, SD, Larry (Rose) Fankhauser of Chadron, NE, Dan (Felicia) Fankhauser of Chadron, NE, and Fred (Helen) Fankhauser of Waverly, NE; grandchildren, Megan Whetham (Kurtis McMann), Jessica Whetham (Tayler Ringler), Zach Fankhauser (Rachel Sauser-Smith), and Travis Fankhauser (Adrianna Fawley); great-grandchildren, Addison Fritzler, Allison Fritzler, Ayden Young, and Hunter McMann; four step-grandchildren, Michaela Nixon, Kassy Swinney, Coy Hunter, and Elizabeth Hunter; ten nieces and nephews, eighteen great nieces and nephews; many beloved friends who he considered family; and his cat, Olaf.

Service to honor Arnold Gene Fankhauser will be held at Chamberlain Chapel on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM. We invite those who knew and loved Arnie to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Chamberlain Chapel for the addition of a memorial bench at the Alliance Veterans Cemetery in honor of Arnie and Jeffrey.
