Avis Summerville

January 7, 1938 — January 27, 2026

Hay Springs

Beloved mom and grandma, Avis Marie Summerville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 27, 2026 at the age of 88. Her family and friends are forever blessed to have had her influence in their lives.

Avis was born on January 7, 1938 to Vernon and Thyra (Feddersen) Toof. She joined a large and loving family as the sixth of eight children. She married the love of her life, Jerry Summerville, on October 2, 1956. To this union, they joyfully welcomed three daughters, Deborah, Susan, and Robin. They were partners in life as well as work at Summerville Oil. They enjoyed 50 years of wedded bliss together. One of her biggest joys in life was her grandchildren who she was always happy to spend time with and never missed an event of theirs. Her house was always a favorite of her grandkids and their friends. All of her family enjoys the beautiful quilts she lovingly made for them. Her family also was blessed to have her help with painting, wallpapering, refinishing furniture, and the quality time she loved to spend with them.

Avis loved her family, her community, and her church dearly. If anyone had a project that needed done, she was quick to step in. Cleaning up the community, for which she was honored with two awards, and working behind the scenes kept her busy. She stained and painted picnic tables at the park as well as the gazebo and benches at the pool just to name a few. She enjoyed helping with church services and meals and stained the outside cross, varnished the windowsills, and made a point to line up pest control for them. Avis never expected a thank you and did any and everything she could to make Hay Springs a better place.

Avis is survived by her daughters Deborah Evans (Jerry), Susan Heiting (Brad), and Robin Ray (Roger); her grandchildren Trevor Evans (Jennifer), Sean McKeehan, Kelly Bower (Travis), Lindsey Heiting (Jaime), Kathleen Stock (Seth), and Whitney Heiting (Tate); her great-grandchildren Zachery Evans (DJ), Aubrey Evans, Hudson McKeehan, Hadley McKeehan, Jayden Bower, Treyce Bower, Auburn Bower, Laila Stock, Stella Stock, Ava Stock, and Callesen Thybo. She is also survived by sisters Suzanne Graham and Sandra Johnson (Don); sister-in-law Sharon Toof, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, parents Vernon and Thyra Toof, in-laws Lee and Helen Summerville, sisters Dorothy Johnson and Elizabeth Carter (Richard), brothers Ronald Toof (Gleeh), Donald Toof (Evelyn), and Charles Toof, and granddaughter Steffe Evans McKeehan.
