Barbara Stewart

Barbara A. (Montague) Stewart passed away on February 16, 2018 at the

Hemingford Community Care Center at the age of 90 after a short bout with

cancer. Barbara was born on November 23, 1927 to Rose and James Montague

at the family home west of Dunlap along the Niobrara River. Barbara attended

grade school at Dunlap and high school at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance

and Assumption Academy in Chadron. After high school Barbara worked at the

bank in Hay Springs and later on the J. C. Penney store in Alliance.

On June 1st 1948, she married Bill Stewart the love of her life at St. Bridget's

Catholic Church in Hemingford. The couple lived for a short while in Alliance

before moving to Chadron. Chadron was Barbara's home for over 65 years. In

Chadron Barbara and Bill raised eight children. In the early days while keeping the

house in order and the kids in line Barbara also waited on customers who came to

the greenhouses for flowers and other plants at the east edge of Chadron. For

several years Barbara worked at the Chadron Medical Clinic and hospital as well.

Barbara was a loving wife and mother and a wonderful cook. In 2016 for health

Reasons Barbara and Bill moved into the Hemingford Community Care Center.

Barbara was proceeded in death by her parents, brother James and sister

Rosemary and by her son Stephen and daughter Alesia.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband Bill of 69 years, son Billy and wife Linda

of Bigfork Montana, son John and wife Jolie of Chadron Nebraska, daughter Mary

Schnell and partner Steve Wolters of Blackhawk South Dakota, daughter Bernadette Marquardt and husband

Steve of Cedaredge Colorado, son Tony of Great Falls Montana, daughter Bridget

Burkhart and husband Tony of Scottsbluff Nebraska. In addition to 20

grandchildren, 25 great grand-children and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a devote catholic and member of St. Patrick's parish in Chadron for

over 65 years. Barbara never wavered in her faith and trust in her savior Jesus

Christ.

A rosary will be held on Thursday Feb. 22, 2018 at 7:00

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday Feb. 23, 2018 at !0:00am with Fr.

Todd Philipsen officiating

at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chadron. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in

Chadron.
