Betty Burton

August 1, 1939 — April 5, 2023

Rushville

Betty (Lou) Maltsberger Burton passed away suddenly on April 5, 2023, at the Gordon Memorial Hospital. Betty was born August 1, 1939, in Elliott, Iowa to Charlotte Eleanor Lewis and Walter Carl Maltsberger.

Betty attended school in Carson, Iowa, where she played ½ court basketball and even went to state, while playing in knee length dresses!

She married Loyd Burton on August 9, 1958, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, where they honeymooned in Crawford, NE. They resided in Bridgeport, NE, until they moved to Rushville, NE, in 1963, where they raised their six children together: Charlotte (Stephen) Pudelko, Elizabeth (Roger) Hunter, Kimberley (Ronald) Denton, Katherine (Dewayne) Burton, Benjamin (Wendy) Burton and Rosemarie Burton.

Betty worked at Wortman Dry Cleaners until they closed. She then helped Loyd at the Burton Body Shop until she got the job at the Rural Educational Services. She then worked at Sheridan County Rural Schools/Rural Education Services Cooperative, Rushville Grade School as a secretary until she retired in 2015 to care for Loyd. She then worked at Security First Insurance until she officially retired in 2020.

Betty was an active member of the Classie Lassies (which she was one of the co-founders), Church Choir, PEO and TOPS. She also was a supporter of the Vintage Car Club, Sheridan County Players and C.A.R.E. She enjoyed following her children’s activities and her biggest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, cross stitch and always had her bags packed for any road trip.

She will be enjoying plenty of rainbows in heaven with her husband Loyd of 57 years, their daughter Rosemarie, great granddaughter Angel, her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Betty is survived by her five children, her sister Janet Erickson, sister-in-law Betty M. Burton of Alliance, 17 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, 10:00am at the Morse Memorial Methodist Church, Rushville, NE. Inurnment will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Rushville, NE.
