William Henry (Bill) Osmotherly was born November 27, 1935 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Rupert and Veronica (Martin) Osmotherly. He grew up and worked on their family ranch south of Hot Springs called Teepee Creek and attended the Maitland School through the eighth grade. While attending a dance in Custer, South Dakota, he met the love of his life, Ethel Louise Parsons and they were married on November 24, 1957 celebrating 63 years of marriage. Born to this union were four sons, Richard William, Robert Rue, Steven Allen, and Keith Eugene.
Bill was a hard worker and farmed and ranched until he found the other love of his life—trucking. He first hauled machinery for two implement dealers and eventually hauled cattle to beef packing plants in western Nebraska and northern Colorado. He retired from trucking at the age of 84. He enjoyed many activities throughout his life including horse riding and roping, square dancing, attending his sons and grandchildren’s sporting events, spending time with his family and telling stories of his trucking adventures. He made friendships easily and treasured all of them.
Bill went to be with Jesus on October 5, 2021. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on October 11, 2021 at Christ Community Church in Crawford, Nebraska with Pastor Steve Mallery officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs, SD. Memorials may be sent to the Crawford Rescue Unit and Crawford Fire Department.
