Cal Coomes passed away May 8, 2022 at his home in Chadron, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 13, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE.
Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville, NE at 1:00 PM.
A memorial has been established for the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337
Cal was born on October 2, 1952 in Rushville, NE to Kelley and Esther Coomes.
He attended grade school at Extension by Whiteclay and graduated from Rushville High School in 1970. Over the years he managed and owned grocery stores in Alliance, NE Julesburg, CO, Whiteclay, NE, House of Bottles Liquor store in Chadron, NE, and Coomes Real Estate in Chadron for many years. He was also a member of the Chadron Volunteer Fire Dept for numerous years.
On October 8th, 1994 he married Rhoda Hunter at the Chapel in the Hills in Rapid City, SD. Cal was a loving husband, Father, Step-Father, Brother, Uncle and Grandpa! He would drop whatever he was doing just to help someone. He was always teasing and playing jokes on everyone. He looked forward to Deer season every fall. He tried to attend as many activities for the Grandkids as possible.
Cal is survived by his wife, Rhoda, of 27 years; Sister Beverly Coomes and Brother Ronald Coomes both of Rapid City, SD, Daughters Lynda and Mike Weingardt of Sterling, CO, Crissy and Chris Olsen of Harrisburg, NE, Sons Mike and Julie Coomes of Rushville, NE, Kevin Coomes of Chadron, NE, Step-sons Jake and Kristen Hunter of Chadron, NE, Tyler Hunter of Chadron, NE. Grandchildren Dalton Scott of Marietta ,Georgia, Justin Scott of Laramie, WY, Ryan and Kindra Olsen of Harrisburg, NE, Whitney Harper of Harrisburg, NE, Logan Dexter of Rushville, NE, Kylie Coomes of Rushville, NE, Katie Coomes of Rushville, NE, Eli Hunter of Chadron, NE, Payten Hunter of Chadron, NE, and 7 Great Grandkids.
Cal was preceded in death by his Father Kelley, Mother Esther, Brothers Albert and Colin Coomes.
