Carol Keim was born December 29, 1921 in Wray Colorado and passed away December 22, 2019 at the age of 97 years 11 months and 22 days at the Chadron Community Hospital.
Carol was born to manly Keith Stallings and Marion (Coats) Stallings. The Stallings family moved to Chadron Nebraska shortly after her birth where they lived for many years. Carol attended Chadron High School and graduated in 1939.
Carol married Erwin L. Keim on April 27, 1940. This year union lasted 75 years 9 months and 6 days. Carol and Erwin were blessed with four children, Erwin Jr., Jimmy, Phyllis and Karen. Carol and Erwin lived the bulk of their married life in the Chadron area, with short periods of living in Idaho and South Dakota.
Carol spent her working career in food services and ended her career owning her own restaurant, Carol’s Kitchen, in Chadron Nebraska. Carol retired and sold her restaurant in 1985. She and Erwin would then travel south to Apache Junction Arizona for the winter and return to Chadron in the spring for the next 15 years. During their time in Arizona the couple had opportunities to travel to many different states and Mexico, all which they enjoyed with their Apache Junction friends and family. In 2000 they made the decision to quit going to Arizona and spend the rest of their time at home in Chadron.
Carol was active in community service and was a member of the Does Auxiliary, serving as president in 1966, American Legion Auxiliary, Good Sams Camping Club, Hillbillies Camping Club and the Panhandle Saddle Club. Carol volunteered with RSVP, Community Action Center, Dawes County Fair, Bread Basket, and served on the election committee. She was always willing to be your friend, mentor and gave a helping hand to anyone in need.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband Erwin, parents M.K. and Marion Stallings, one brother M. Keith Stallings, two sisters Lorraine Stallings Shanholtzer and Joyce Stallings Jones, along with several nieces and nephews.
Carol will be missed by her four children, son’s Erwin LeeRoy (Helen) and Jimmy (Betty) Keim. Daughter’s Phyllis Moseley and Karen Rich, 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren, along with her extended family and many friends. She was a very special lady.
Funeral services will be held at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, Nebraska on December 28, 2019 at 2:00PM with Pastor Russ Seger officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, Nebraska along side her husband. A memorial has been established for the Chadron Ambulance fund.
