Carol Koehn

Carol Ann Koehn (nee Butcher) was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 13, 1936, as the first child of William and Anna Butcher (nee Koletty). Carol grew up in Queens, New York. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and a master’s degree from Columbia University. She worked for Time magazine in the 1960s as a researcher.

Carol was married to Enno “Ed” Koehn for 43 years. For over 25 of those years, they lived in Beaumont, Texas. She taught social studies at Kelly High School until her retirement. She travelled extensively throughout her life visiting Southeast Asia, Israel, China, Japan, Australia, Brazil & Europe.

After the death of her husband Ed, she moved to Chadron, Nebraska to be close to family. Carol and her granddaughter Marcella developed a close relationship.

Carol died on Sunday November 10, 2024. She is survived by sons: William “Bill” Koehn and James Koehn; daughters-in-law: Cynthia Koehn and Kathleen Kirsch; grandchildren: Lars Koehn, Brett Koehn and Marcella Koehn; sisters: Diane Doss-Hunt and Elaine Garrett; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carol’s funeral will be on Saturday November 16, 2024, at 10 am at Grace Episcopal Church in Chadron, Nebraska. Her ashes will be interred at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Beaumont, Texas at a future date.
