Carol J. Sager, 80, passed away June 4, 2019, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, Nebraska. She was born February 16, 1939 to John William and Helen (Semin) Majeski.
In 1941 the family moved to Los Angeles, California. When Carol was in the 8th grade the family moved to Venice, California where she attended Mark Twain Jr High and Venice High School, graduating February 1, 1957. Upon graduation she went to work for General Telephone Company in Santa Monica, California.
On February 18, 1959 she was united in marriage to William (Fritz) Deckert of Porcupine, South Dakota and to this union 3 children were born, Michael John, Tina Rae and William Martin Deckert II.
After Fritz passed away in an automobile accident, Carol and her children returned to California where she was employed by Douglas Aircraft. She missed the South Dakota life and returned to the Deckert ranch.
On August 2, 1963, Carol was united in marriage to Vernon Sager and to this union Mark Allen and Leslie Anne were born and joined the family.
Carol worked for Shannon County School in Batesland, SD, driving a school bus, as a teacher’s aide and also attendance clerk. Carol enjoyed gardening, canning and taking care of her children. She was active at the Wesleyan Gospel Chapel (now the Wellspring Church) and served on the board.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Shirley Dunn. She is survived by her husband Vernon, children Mike Deckert, Bill Deckert, Tina (Doug) Dutenhoeffer, Mark Sager, Leslie (Wayne) Reeves, Mike Gilbert who she considered a son, her brother John Majeski, special friend Jon Alpert, Charlotte Cummings who she considered a sister and 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday June 15, 2019, 11:00 am at the Wellspring Church, Gordon, Nebraska with burial at Extension Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday June 14, 2019, from 5 to 7 pm at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, Gordon, NE.
