Charleen Hare Wood

Charleen was born in Farmland, Indiana, on July 4, 1931, to Milton and Vae (Walls) Sanderfer. Her family came west with the Scamahorn Colony by covered wagon. She attended and graduated from Gordon High School in 1949. She worked as an operator for N.W Bell (her favorite job), Saults Drug, and Chamberlin Furniture.

She married Dean Hare and had 3 sons, Scott, Miles, and Vernon. She loved art, and after raising her boys, she cast her first Bronze called Rollin’ Your Own. It won first place, sculpture division, at Buffalo Bill Days in North Platte, NE. Some of her other awards were 1st place sculpture at the George Phippen Memorial Art Show at Prescott, AZ, for The Vanishing Breed, and 1st place sculpture at the Wind River Valley National Art Show, Dubois, Wyoming. She was featured at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame art show at Hereford, TX, and the Grand National Art Show, New York City, N.Y. She won the Award of Excellence for Cat Country at the Five State Art Show, Scottsbluff, NE. In later years, she painted feathers and wrote poetry. After the death of her 2nd husband, she married Darrel Wood and inherited an extended family. The love of her life was “All of my amazing family and my lifelong friend Joan”

She was preceded in death by both parents, 2 husbands, Dean Hare and Bill Abraham, a son Scott, a sister Lorainne Alexander, and a great-grandson Eli Hunter.

She is survived by her husband, Darrell Wood; sons Miles (Melinda) Hare, Vernon (Pam) Hare, and Dena (Scott) Hare. Grandchildren: Truleigh (Mike) Trennepohl, Jake (Corinne) Hare, Shane (Karen) Hare, Stormy (Ben) Hunter, and stepson, Les Hare. Great-grandchildren: Alec (Caisey), Ashton, Addie, Chance, Olivia, Ryder, Ileigh, Katelyn, Landon, and Dawson, and many nieces and nephews.
