David Dean Hatch was born in Gordon, Nebraska, on August 22, 1945, to Earnest and Mildred Hatch. He passed away April 19, 2019 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was the eighth child of nine. He spent his early childhood at the family farm helping out with the cows and sheep. He and some siblings rode horseback to the country school. Later, he attended Gordon High School.
He learned all kinds of trades by working a variety of jobs – anything and everything, from the Hatch Brothers Ready-Mix Cement Company, to felling trees near Custer.
Dave and Sally started dating when a mutual friend set them up on a coffee date. They married in 1971 and lived in Gordon until 1987 when they moved just out of town to a farm they purchased. They raised chickens, sheep, pigs, and cows. Over the years Dave also planted trees and grew fields of alfalfa. In addition to farm life, Dave was also an entrepreneur. He drove a semi-truck, owned an excavation and construction business as well as some other side businesses. He served one term as a Sheridan County Commissioner.
Dave and Sally enjoyed bowling, dancing, and playing cards with friends. They enjoyed traveling some too. Dave was an active member of the Gordon Church of God. Dave enjoyed family gatherings with his sons Mike and Judd, and his daughter Terri, their families and extended relatives. Dave was happiest when he was driving his tractor, walking his dog, feeding his cows, or having a grandbaby sleeping on his chest. All of these activities were accomplished with a cup of coffee in his hand.
Dave and Sally were married forty-eight years. They raised three children, have ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother, father, and five sisters. He is survived by his wife Sally, his children Mike Hatch of Omaha, Terri Beguin of Gordon, Judd Hatch of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and their families. Brothers George Hatch of Battle Creek, Michigan and Ernest Hatch Jr. of Gordon, and sister Beulah Shields of North Platte.
