David Barry Morrill

July 21, 2026, at the age of 74, David Barry Morrill ended his earthly journey, leaving those that loved him to mourn his passing.

Dave was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph H. and Virginia R. Morrill. He was the second of nine children.

He graduated from Dowling High School in 1970 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Special Forces 8th Airborne Infantry Division. While training as a paratrooper, Dave earned the Parachutist Badge and a M-16 Sharpshooter Medal. His enlisted time was spent in Europe.

After his military service, he attended Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa. This was the beginning of his college and football career. It is here that he met his future wife, Nada. They were married on August 6, 1977. After moving to Chadron, Nebraska, Dave played college football for 2 years while completing a teaching degree in Business and Physical Education.

Graduating from Chadron State College, Dave and Nada returned to Ankeny, Iowa. Dave was employed as a dispatcher for Super Value Groceries. Daughter Samantha Alice was born on October 15, 1981. A few years later, Dave and family returned to Chadron, Nebraska, so Dave could earn his Master’s Degree at Chadron State.

Daughter Megan Renae was born April 8, 1986. The family moved to Rushville, Nebraska, and Dave began teaching at Pine Ridge High School in Pine Ridge, SD, where he taught for the next 26 years. He also coached football, baseball, and track. He retired March 2012.

Dave had many hobbies, which included fishing, hunting, golfing, and cheering on his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes. One of his favorite hobbies was making and giving away wine.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Virginia Morrill; parents-in-law, Verl and Marjorie Roberts; granddaughter Taylor; nephew Nathan; great-niece Natalie; brother-in-law Dan Ring; and brother and sister-in-law Gene and Linda Roberts.

He is survived by his wife Nada; his daughters, Samantha Grasewicz and Megan (Chance) Denton; his grandchildren, Tedy Grasewicz, Laeth, Meritt, Norah, and Ottalee Denton; siblings, Tim (Evelyn) Morrill, Connie (Bill) Krejci, Mark Morrill, Cindy (Terry) Reed, Roxanne (Mike) Zilk, Fred (Wendy) Morrill, Joseph (Lou-Ann) Morrill, and Jacqueline (Scott) Lemon; Sister-in-law’s: Joyce Ring and Nila Roberts, Brother-in-Laws: Francis (Judy) Roberts and Vonn (Deb) Roberts along with numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
