Dennis Dean Marcy, 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Dennis was born on May 29, 1951, in Seward, Nebraska, to Orrin and Gladys Marcy. He graduated from Hay Springs High School and went on to live a life rich with adventure, passion, and meaningful connections.
From a young age, Dennis had a deep love for horses and naturally embraced the ranching and rodeo lifestyle of a cowboy. He competed at the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Shows, bringing home multiple winnings. Dennis proudly displayed his many saddle bronc riding championship belt buckles, notably decorated with his cherished beaded belts.
Above all, Dennis loved life on the Niobrara River. He found peace in rising early to watch the sunrise paint the sky with ever-changing colors and enjoyed the view from his deck as the evening golden hour settled in. Each spring, he eagerly anticipated the return of new life along the river, finding great joy in observing the animals and the beauty of nature awaken once again.
Dennis was a lifelong baseball enthusiast and a loyal Baltimore Orioles fan. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and never met a stranger. Some of his happiest moments were spent watching the O's and fondly cherished cheering on his children from the stands. He was the proudest dad when they caught the game-ending pop fly, threw a runner out at first base, or swung for the fences.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Orrin and Gladys Marcy.
He is survived by his son, Luke, and wife, Nichole, and grandchildren Olive, and Orrin; his daughter, Cheyanne, and grandson Archer; his beloved dog, Cortez; and a host of friends near and far whose lives were made better by knowing him.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, beginning with an interment at Hay Springs Cemetery at 2 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the Hay Springs Community Hall starting at 3 pm.
Fond memories and condolences may be shared with the Marcy family at www.chamberlainchapel.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hay Springs Rural Fire Department or Buckboard Therapeutic Riding Academy. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
