Dottie Peters

March 9, 1945 — April 28, 2025

Dorothy (Dottie) Wilkerson Peters, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, departed this world on April 28, 2025, at the age of 80 after battling multiple illnesses. Dottie's journey began on March 9, 1945, when she was born to Benjamin and Agnes Wilkerson, one of eleven siblings.

Dottie met Gene Peters, the love of her life, at the Naval Communication Station in Maryland during the fall of 1962. Their love story continued in marriage on November 3, 1963, and together they raised three children: Dee Dee, Hattie, and Todd. As a Navy wife, Dottie masterfully managed their household through frequent relocations, always creating a warm and welcoming home for Gene upon his returns.

In 1981, following Gene's retirement from the Navy, they settled south of Hay Springs on Mirage Flats, before moving into town. Dottie then embarked on a new chapter as a nail technician, founding her business, Accent on Nails. This establishment was more than a business; it was a community hub where Dottie welcomed visitors with open arms, much to Gene's amusement as he wondered if it was a business or a social gathering spot.

As grandchildren arrived, Dottie's focus shifted from her business to her beloved role as a grandmother. Each year, she organized Grandma Dottie day, taking the grandkids to The Black Hills for adventures known only to them. Dee Dee and Jennifer plan to keep this tradition alive. Dottie's grandparenting was legendary, highlighted by her Easter egg hunts, where the coveted golden egg held a $50 bill.

Dottie never shied away from a game of cards or marbles, her competitive spirit shining through. Friends and family knew to guard their cards carefully and conceal the bottom card of the pile, as Dottie loved a good challenge.

Those closest to her understood that for 62 years, her heart belonged to Gene, whom she affectionately called PaPa. Her devotion to him was unwavering, a testament to their deep bond and enduring love.

Dottie is survived by her loving husband Gene. Her daughter Dee Dee (Randy) Ray, son Todd (Jennifer) Peters, son-in-law Wade Hanks. Grandchildren Darrick (Lacie) Hanks, Hannah Russell, Levi Ray, Chris Ray, Erica (Grant) Meyer, and Brandon Peters. Great Grandchildren Adi Arthur, Aleah Arthur, Ella Russell, Cooper Meyer, Elli Hanks, Brynn Hanks, Riggs Meyer and Trey Hanks. Special friends Kathy (Ken) Frye, Sandi Walker, Deb (Charley) Kuskie.
