Elsie Bostock

Elsie Darlene Cummings was born on November 26, 1942 in Pine Ridge, SD. She grew up on a farm 2 miles north of Martin, SD where she attended grade school through the 7th grade then attended Holy Rosary Mission in Pine Ridge.

Elsie married Glenn Bostock on December 30, 1958 in Rapid City, SD. To this union 6 children were born, Tami (who was a still born baby), Glenn Jr., Keith, LaVonda, Larry and Wade Bostock.

Glenn and Elsie worked on various ranches for 20 years until moving back to Martin in 1980 or 1981. Elsie worked at several hospitals and nursing homes as a CNA. On her twenty-first birthday her husband bought her a sewing machine as a gift and her love for sewing began. Elsie sewed most of her children’s clothes and her dresses for many years until arthritis set in and was unable to sew much anymore. Elsie’s second passion was dancing. She taught all her kids how to dance and even a few of her grandkids.

Elsie worked as a jailor and radio dispatcher at the Bennett County Sheriff’s Office while living in Martin until Glenn and Elsie divorced. She then moved to Minnesota for a while where again she worked as a Law Enforcement Radio Dispatcher. Elsie moved to Valentine, NE and worked several jobs and later on as a Law Enforcement Radio Dispatcher and Jailor until she retired. A special note-Elsie was a Certified Radio Dispatcher in 3 states.

Elsie passed away February 22, 2019 at Countyside Care Nursing Home in Gordon. She was preceded in death by her father Frank, mother Mary Belle, daughter Tami Lea, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 nephews and 1 granddaughter Lisa Bostock. In her passing she leaves her children Glenn Jr. (Mary Ann) of Valentine, NE, Keith (Candy), LaVonda (Mike), Larry, all of Gordon, NE and Wade (Jennifer) of Paxico, Kansas, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren.

Her family and many many friends will miss her. Memorial services for Elsie will be held at a later date.
