Evelyn Gail Glassgow November 10, 1937 – June 21, 2025
Evelyn Gail Glassgow, known as Gail, , age 87, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family and love. Born November 10, 1937, in Alliance, Nebraska, to Eldon and Bertha Hamilton, Gail spent her childhood in the Nebraska Sandhills on the Oliver Hamilton ranch after the early loss of her mother. Oliver and Etta Hamilton adopted Gail at two years old. Alongside her sister Shirley, she enjoyed a joyful and imaginative upbringing riding horses, creating plays, and exploring the wide-open hills near the Oliver Hamilton ranch.
Gail graduated from Gordon High School in 1955, then attended Chadron State College’s teacher training program. She taught at a country school near Ellsworth, where she met Harold Glassgow. They married in 1957, eventually settling near the Niobrara River where they raised their three sons, Don, Perry, and Chuck. Gail and Harold later moved to the Fritz Sandoz ranch, which remained their home.
Faith and family were the foundations of Gail’s life. She was deeply involved in the Pleasant Point Church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and playing the piano for worship. Gail was active in organizations including DAR and Eastern Star, and cherished the community she built through church and neighbors. She was known for her musical talent, artistic skill, and ability to cook and host with ease.
Gail and Harold enjoyed traveling together to Canada, Hawaii, and Mexico. After Harold's passing, she continued to travel with her sister Shirley, including trips to Alaska, Ireland, Scotland, and across the U.S.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents Eldon and Bertha Hamilton, adoptive parents Oliver and Etta Hamilton, her son Perry, grandchildren Chad and Connie, and siblings Frank and Julie.
She is survived by her sons Don (Kathy) and Chuck (Karen), grandchildren Jodi (Judd), Jesse (Angie), Jeremy, Misti, Amy (Jake), Marty (Abby), Megan (Chad), and Casey (Tifanni); numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter; sisters Shirley and Marjorie; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Gail was a faithful servant, a talented homemaker, a treasured friend, and above all, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She prayed daily for her family and left a legacy of unwavering faith, kindness, and grace.
