Funeral services for George Edward Sulzbach, 84, of Crawford will be on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Harrison Bible Church with Pastor Matt Parker officiating. Burial will be at the Glendale Cemetery, rural Crawford. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Crawford. George passed away Sunday, March 16, at the Chadron Community Hospital. George was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Alliance, NE, to Laura (Zurcher) and Charles Sulzbach, one of nine sons. He grew up on the ranch in eastern Box Butte County. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1954 during the Korean Conflict. George married Shirley Koozer, Jan. 20, 1956, in Gering, NE, and they made their home in Alliance. To this union, five children were born. Later, they moved to Buffalo Gap, SD, where George was a fireman on the Veteran's Administration Fire Department in Hot Springs, SD. After returning to the family farm for a short time, in 1968 they moved to Crawford where they ranched and farmed. George started working for the Nebraska State Road Department and they lived in Harrison for several years. They began attending the Harrison Bible Church and George trusted in Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1993. After his retirement from the road department in 1994, George and Shirley moved back to the Crawford area and he worked several summers at Fort Robinson State Park. Throughout his years he enjoyed planting trees, gardening and growing any seeds he could find, visiting with people, reading and keeping up on current events, and collecting miscellaneous items. George is survived by his wife of 58 years Shirley; children Hank and Jeanne Sulzbach, Mitchell, NE; Julie Sulzbach, Crawford; Laurie and Jim Miller, Crawford; Kurt and Deb Sulzbach of Gering; Kristie and Jim Renchin, Forest City, IA; grandchildren Jenny and John Christiansen, Bluffdale, UT; Curtis Sulzbach, Oxnard, CA; Elizabeth Miller, Dodoma, Tanzania; Amanda Sulzbach, Rapid City, SD; Trinity Renchin, Rebecca Saatmann, Jacob Saatmann and Rachel Saatmann of Forest City, IA; great-granddaughter Jayde Sulzbach of Rapid City, SD; four brothers, Charles and Doris Sulzbach, Pullman, WA; Harold Sulzbach, Spearfish, SD; Norman and Jean Sulzbach, Riverton, WY; Fred Sulzbach, Belle Fouche, SD; brothers- and sisters-in-law Jack and Leota Lawler, Ham Lake, WI; Bill and Carolyn Koozer, CO; Tom and Betty McDonald, Alliance; Jean Seidler, Alliance; Bonnie McLaughlin, Alliance; Raily and Denise Koozer, Alliance; Sharon Nolette, Glen Burnie, MD; Don and Toni Fanning, Cross Timbers, MO; Alan and Tammi Koozer, Alliance and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Laura, his parents-in-law Raily and Mary Koozer, brothers Arthur, Donald, Robert and Richard; son-in-law Gregg Saatmann; brothers-in-law Wilber Seidler and Marty McLaughlin and sister-in-law Colleen Koozer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Harrison Bible Church Missionary Fund or memorial of your choice. Memorials can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337. Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements.
