Funeral services for Helen Irene Emick of Chadron, Nebraska will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Dr. Reverend mark Crist officiating. Burial will be at the Torrington City Cemetery in Torrington, Wyoming at approximately 2:00 PM. Helen Irene (Wood) Emick passed away January 28, 2015 at Crestview Care Center in Chadron, NE. Helen was born July 1, 1921 in Wheatland WY to Paul and Edna (French) Wood. She grew up on a farm in Yoder, WY and attended Yoder High School, where she played drums in the band and performed in many singing competitions. After graduating in 1939, she went to Beauty School in Cheyenne WY, where she earned her degree in cosmetology. She moved to Torrington, WY and worked in a beauty salon which she later purchased. She was wed to William (Bill) Emick, from Minatare NE in 1945. They spent the next twelve years residing and working in Torrington and Scottsbluff, NE. They spent eight years in Lawrence, KS and two years in Riverton, WY. During this time, Helen was involved in the United Methodist church, Sweet Adelines singing group and raising four children. She served as a troop leader in Cub Scouts with both sons and Camp Fire Girls with both daughters. In 1968, they moved to Chadron NE, where Helen continued to be very active in the Methodist church, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir for many years. She also assisted Bill in the Gambles store and was an active member in DAR, Geneology Society and the Dawes County Historical Society. She had a life-long love of music and fixing Sunday dinners for the family. She also enjoyed travelling, crafting, gardening and sewing for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, Lois (Jim) Fauerbach of Emporia, KS, Paul Emick and Tom (Pam) Emick of Chadron and Pat Emick of Kansas City, MO, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill, brother John Raymond Wood, and sisters Pauline (Wilhite) and Lois (Scott). A memorial has been established for the United Methodist Church.
