Janel Kay (Chasek) Dexter, of Chadron, Nebraska, passed away on Monday morning June 15, 2026 at the age of 78.
Janel was born on January 12, 1948 to Howard Chasek and Jeanette (Gochnauer) Chasek. She grew up on their farm on the table south of Chadron with brothers Gary and Bernard. She graduated from the Catholic Assumption Academy and went on to attend college at CSC. She was united in marriage with Ronald James Dexter on November 14, 1969. Blessed from their union was a daughter Joy and a son John. Together they built a life centered on community, rodeos, summers at The Lake, Angostura Reservoir, and celebrating holidays with family.
Janel was known for her kindness, generosity, and dedication to those she loved. She is well-known in the community as a home health care provider, and was respected for her hard work and commitment to the people that she cared for. Outside of work, she loved her animals and horses, and she found great joy in spending time with family and friends. She spent much of her time teaching and enrichening the youth of the community by being a cub scout, girl scout, and 4-H leader. Janel had a certain way to get the young men to pay attention (the ear twist), and is fondly remembered by the girls as someone they could call on for help.
She is survived by Joy Dexter of Crawford,; John (Tabetha) Dexter of Alliance; special friend, Susie Nilson; nephew, K.C.(Rebecca) Chasek; brother Bernard (Patti) Chasek; all of Chadron; grandchildren Logan, Jozlin and Tyler, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Jeanette Chasek, and brother Gary Chasek.
Janel will be remembered for her warm spirit, caring heart, quick wit, sense of humor, and the positive impact she made on the lives of those around her. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
