Jerri Malmberg passed away on December 7, 2017 at University of Colorado Hospital in Denver. She was born February 10, 1943 in Gordon, NE to Edward & Thelma (Gehrig) Hartman.
The family moved to eastern Nebraska in 1952 and lived southeast of Herman on the Missouri River bottom. Within a few weeks of settling in, they had to evacuate and Thelma and the kids returned to Gordon to stay with grandparents, Fred & Stella Gehrig until it was safe to go back. The rural school had flooded so the kids continued their education in Herman. After graduating high school in 1962, Jerri moved back to Gordon where she met Mack Malmberg. The two were married Feb. 17, 1963. Cooking for ranch hands and raising 3 children became her fulltime job.
After the kids grew up, Jerri took a bookkeeping course and worked at Matula's Jack & Jill in Gordon and then Sioux Nation Shopping Center in Pine Ridge. In 2001, she went to work for Bob Schott's tax office where she continued employment through Carol Childs' tenure and was still involved with the company when GLR took the reins in 2016. Rather than retiring, she chose to stay and keep learning new ways to do the job that she loved.
She was involved in the community and her family, enjoying activities ranging from target shooting with the family to Legion Auxiliary functions.
Over the years, she developed a reputation for being extremely loving and caring and will be remembered for her warm smiles and hugs! She was also a prankster with a witty sense of humor.
Jerri is survived by her daughters Robin (Loren) Wilson and Lisa (Marlon) Reed and son Eric Malmberg, honorary daughter Jennifer Hooper (Phil Colella), grandchildren Breezy (Lee) Luebke, Terry (Tara) Wilson, Christy (Cameron) Corneliuson, Tony Reed, Curtis Reed, Kadence Hooper, Kamden Colella, and Tuff Colella, and great-grandchildren Connor Wilson and Cody Luebke, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack, her parents and her brothers, Dick, Jim, and Roger Hartman, cousin Denny Gehrig and her grandson, Lane Malmberg.
Services will be held Thursday, December 14, 2017, 10:00 AM at the Wesleyan Gospel Chapel in Gordon, NE, with burial in the Gordon Cemetery.
The family suggest memorials to the Gordon American Legion Auxiliary or the Legion Baseball and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
