Jerri Piper

Geraldine Ann Piper was born April 2, 1941, and entered into death on February 26, 2018. She was the first of ten children born to Melvin and Fern Ostrander. Quickly known as Jerri, she spent her childhood in and around the Gordon area. Jerri attended kindergarten through fourth grade in Gordon. She then went to country school at the Downing school, and later the Minors school. Jerri went back to school in Gordon starting in the 7th grade. Jerri continued living in Gordon throughout her early teenage years.

On December 25, 1955, Jerri met the love of her life, Dale Piper at a Christmas dance in Merriman, Nebraska. They were married shortly after in May of 1956. The couple would spend most of their lives living south of Gordon on the Piper ranch where they raised their two children, Rhonda Jean and Michael Dale. The ranch life always kept Dale and Jerri busy, but they always had time to welcome you into their home. Jerri was an excellent cook. Nobody ever left her home without a wonderful meal.

The summers on the ranch meant going to the hayfield. Jerri would start her day by preparing a big breakfast for the hay crew, and then sent them on their way with a packed lunch. When the crew returned at days end, a hot meal would be waiting for them. Even the mailman and gas delivery man knew when dinner time was. Aside from cooking, Jerri loved spending time with her family and her many friends. Special times at the Piper ranch included brandings and summer barn dances, all of which Jerri looked forward to. Sunday dinners also held a special place in her heart, as friends and family would come out to enjoy a nice meal together. Jerri was active as a 4H leader when her children were growing up. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and was a member of the local women's club.

Dale and Jerri moved to town after they retired from the ranch. Jerri played in several card clubs. She really enjoyed a good game of crib, bunco and could play a mean game of scrabble.

Jerri loved her grandchildren. She truly enjoyed going to the various activities they participated in. Along with her grandchildren, Jerri enjoyed the company of her many friends and family members. You could never leave the Piper's house without hearing "come over." A life lesson that Jerri quoted was "how important good health is, her wonderful family and friends, and that each day is a gift."

Jerri was proceeded into death by her husband Dale of 63 years. Her parents Melvin and Fern, one sister Janice, four brothers Daniel, Donald, Morris, and Gene, and great-nephew Paul Brennan.

Jerri is survived by daughter, Rhonda (Ted) and their children Kaleb, Taryn (Clayton), and Jordan. Son, Mike (Tish) and their children Macy, Sam, and Chaz. Great grandchildren, Kylie and Kinley. Sisters, Judy, Cheryl, Temple, and Donna, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
