Jessie Coon

Jessie Carroll Owens was born December 9, 1935 in Corbin, Kentucky to Alpha Roberts Owens and Manning Owens. She grew up with two sisters, Laura Jane, and Mary Joyce.  Later the family moved to Pond Creek, Oklahoma.

On August 22, 1951 Jessie married the love of her life, Thomas Jackson (Jack) Coon in Enid, Oklahoma.  The two lived in various cities prior to settling in Martin, SD where they raised their four sons, Mark, Randy, Paul, and Terry.  Jessie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and homemaker.  She worked at the Bennett County nursing home for 24 years and so enjoyed the residents there.  Jessie loved to go fishing, camping and a variety of other outings with her family.

Jessie passed away peacefully at Edgewood Assisted Living in Brookings SD with family bedside, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.  She is survived by her four sons, Mark Wesley (Marie) Coon of Kansas City, KS, Randolph Clayton of Killeen, TX, Paul Alan (Deb) Coon of Plankington, SD and Terry Lee (Heather) Coon of Brookings, SD., 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her Husband, Thomas Jackson Coon; her mother, Alpha Roberts Owens; her father, Manning Owen; her sisters, Laura Jane Moore and Mary Joyce Kelsey.

Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Bennett County Funeral Service at 211 Main Street, Martin SD.  Graveside Funeral Service and Interment will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Martin Community Cemetery. The family requires all in attendance to wear a face mask, as there are members who are immunocompromised.
