Jimmy J Johnson (JJ), Age 90, was born on September 26, 1927 to James Clarence and Virgie Elizabeth (Steele) Johnson in Loup City, Nebraska. He passed away on February 2, 2018 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, NE. Jimmy moved to the Hay Springs area when he was two years of age when his parents moved to a farm west of Hay Springs. He attended Antelope School through the eighth grade. He attended Hay Springs High School and graduated in 1945. In 1946 he went into the Army for eighteen months. Most of his service was spent in Alaska. When he returned from the service he married Virginia Lee Jensen (Jenny). They bought Unit 42 on the Mirage Flats where they made their home for the next 69 years. To this union was born five children - Karen, Marvin, Rita, Robert and Donna. Jimmy and Virginia owned a Dairy farm for about 40 years which kept them pretty close to the farm. They worked closely with their children and the neighbors to make a good life filled with great memories. Jimmy enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, dancing; as well as visiting and working with neighbors. He had the opportunity to travel to several places in the United States and Canada which he enjoyed. As a Veteran, he and his son, Marv were able to travel to Washington DC on the Honor Flight. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Doyle Johnson; and Sister Joan Wilsey; grandson, Eric Peters; and granddaughter, Ashton Birmingham. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; a sister, Lorna (Dale) Christoffersen; Brother-in-law, Wes Wilsey; and sister-in-law, MaryBell Johnson….His Children - Karen (Pat) Runkle; Marvin (Cheryl) Johnson; Rita (Wayne) Peters; Robert (Donna) Johnson and Donna (Rick) Brice. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and neighbors. Burial will be at Nebraska Veteran's Cemetery in Alliance, Nebraska. A ‘Celebration of Life' will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Parish Hall on Mirage Flats on Saturday, February 10th from 2-4. The community is welcome.
