Karen Schlais

Funeral Services for Karen Schlais of Chadron, Nebraska will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Chadron, Nebraska. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron. Karen passed away on April 6, 2022 at Chadron Community Hospital at the age of 77.

Karen Marie (Kindig) Schlais was born August 18, 1944 to Kenneth and Marie (Larsen) the youngest of four children.

She was baptized and confirmed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was active in youth group, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. After graduating High School, she moved to Denver, Colorado with her sister and family.

After a year she moved to Los Angeles to live with an aunt. She graduated cosmetology school and was a beautician for twenty years. She married Harold Schlais in 1970 and they had one son William. She was active at Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Inglewood, California by helping in the library and hot lunch program. She was also President of the Beautician Union 295A Los Angeles.

In 1983, she and her family moved back to Chadron. She resumed being busy at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was also involved with RSVP and the Dawes County Museum.

She is survived by her son Bill (Eunice), 7 nieces, 2 nephews, 2 step children, and 7 step grandchildren.
