Kathy JoAnn McCoy

Kathy Jo Ann (Wright) McCoy was called home to our Lord and Savior on August 13, 2026, in Chadron, NE. Kathy was born in Crawford, NE, the youngest of 4 children to Esther (Weisbrook) Wright on December 8, 1956. She became a child of God through baptism on February 3, 1957.

Kathy grew up in Crawford, where she was blessed to spend her younger years having quality time with Grandpa Bernie & Grandma Hilda Weisbrook. Unfortunately, some of that quality time meant sitting like a statue on the banks while Grandpa fished. Needless to say, she didn’t inherit a love for fishing but did learn patience, something she practiced her whole life. Kathy’s childhood was never boring being a member of the infamous Wright gang. From knife throwing in the kitchen or exploring the city’s sewer tunnels to manning the local paper route, an incredibly strong family bond & a lifetime of memories were made. 

Kathy earned her reputation of being a hard worker early in life. Her job at the Daisy Queen was the perfect opportunity to sweeten her budding relationship with her future husband with near ½ gallon ice cream cones. Roger & Kathy were wed on January 5, 1975. From this union they were blessed with 5 children–Jennifer Ann, Kerri Jo, Colby Lee, LaRee Dawn, & Samantha KayCee. Throughout their marriage, Kathy wore many hats to help provide for the family. In addition to being a loving mother and working in the home, she worked at the Hemingford and Crawford Schools lunch programs. She was active in her church community, teaching Sunday School, helping with Vacation Bible School in numerous ways (craft time was always her favorite), counseling & cooking at Beaver Valley Lutheran Camp, LWML, & being a true clay jar. Kathy had many wonderful talents, including embroidery and cake decorating. She used her talents as expressions of love every chance she could. One of Kathy’s greatest joys was watching her grandchildren grow & seeing reflections of her legacy in each and every one.

Kathy is preceded in death by her mother, Esther, and Brother Ray Wright.

She is survived by her husband, Roger; her children Jenni Swanson, Kerri (Jeff) Schneider, Colby (Sarah) McCoy, LaRee (Matt) Faber, Samantha (Nate) Jech & her 11 grandchildren: Brendan & Zac Swanson; Carlie, Hallie, & Hannah Schneider; Emily, Colin, & Ethan McCoy; Kamdyn Faber; Michael & Maddison Jech. She will be missed terribly by all who knew her.
