Kenneth Korte

Kenneth Lyle Korte, 80, died August 30, 2022 at his home in Chadron, NE. Ken is survived by his son Jason Korte (wife Nicole) of Alliance, NE and Hilory Martin (husband Joe) of Bayard, NE, grandchildren Hannah, Madison, Emmerae, Madelyn, Makayla and Wyatt and nephew Aaron Manning. He was preceded in death by his father Clem Korte, his mother Laverne (Coons) Korte and his sister Rhonda Varner.

Ken was born in Torrington, WY on February 6, 1942. After graduating from Torrington High School Ken later attended Chadron State College where he received a Bachelors Degree in Education. Ken worked as a teacher for a short time in Hyannis, NE and later moved to Helena, MT where he was the director of Montana State Historical Society for a number of years. Later in life Ken moved back to Nebraska and worked for Chadron State College where his last position was Interim Director for the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center on campus. After retirement he worked part time as a bailiff for the Dawes County Courthouse.

Ken was a history buff and loved reading many books about the Civil War. He also had a small collection of memorabilia from that era that he was very proud of. If he wasn’t reading books he enjoyed working on his classic cars. He was also one of the organizers of the classic car show held every year in Chadron.

A memorial service will be held September 6 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
