LaVern Howard (Bernie) Britton Obituary
Bernie was born December 17th, 1936 and passed away on August 21, 2026 at the age of 89. Bernie was born the 4th of 5 boys. There was Duane, Ronald, Jess (DeVere), LaVern (Bernie) and Warren (Butch). He graduated from Crawford High School in 1955 and enlisted in the US Navy on February 22, 1956. He went to Chicago – Great Lakes for basic training then his home port was San Diego, CA. He was in Seattle, WA and Okinawa. He was on the USS Bennington an Air Craft Carrier for 2 years and was very proud of his Navy days. He came home on leave and married our Mom Clydean Roan. After an Honorable discharge December 1959 they moved to Casper, WY. He worked building boats and then went to work at the Power Plant between Pathfinder Dam and Alcova just outside of Casper. They returned to Chadron where he drove truck for several local trucking companies and Schuhmacher Ranch and then finally retired from Dawes County as a truck driver.
July 2026, he fell and broke his hip. He died August 21, 2026. He went to the Lord’s house and is reunited with everyone he has missed for so long.
Graveside Service will be August 29, 2026 at Greenwood Cemetery Chadron, NE at 11:00 am.
He is proceeded in death by his wife Clydean, and daughter Tracy Jo, Parents Jess and Myrtle Britton, his in laws Clyde and Maude Roan, Bob and Lorraine Sandstrom, brothers, Duane (Betty), DeVere (Dorothy), Butch (Renate), June Britton, nephews Jerry, Steve, Tomas, Zac, nieces Tammy and Lorna.
He is survived by his brother Ronald Britton (Crawford), Children Vonda (Neal) Chadron, Cindy, Casper, Wy, Lonnie (Deanna) Torrington, WY, grandchildren Cameron (Melissa) Louisville, NE , Matt Soester Casper WY, Grandchildren Jordan Britton (Maddie) Sheridan, WY, Casey (Emma) Torrington, WY and Great grandchildren Kyli Mesa AZ, Jaydin and Taysen Casper, WY and Braden and Brecken Louisville NE as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
In lieu for flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ponderosa Villa, or the Crawford Ambulance Service or a charity of your choice.
