Linda Ann Hutchison was born December 22, 1954 to Carl Cox Young and Vietta Vina (Bayliss) Young, the last of six children in Martin, SD, where she attended school. She grew up on the family farm southeast of town.
On August 19, 1972 she married Randy Hutchison, starting their new life together in Gordon, NE, where their son Chad James was born. About a year later the family bought a house and moved to Merriman, NE for employment. During the winter months, they played volleyball at the grade school gym with other Merriman residents, on Sunday afternoons was women’s volleyball in Martin. When Chad was older, they could be seen at one of the many small lakes around the area fishing most of the summer, and after school with anyone else that enjoyed fishing. During the summer months Linda also played fast pitch softball and helped coach kids’ softball.
In the mid-80s she began a taxidermy business at her home for many of the hunters and fisherman in the area, and she also enjoyed photography.
In the spring of 91 they moved to Lusk, WY, and in December of 92 she retired from taxidermy after being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. The tumor was removed and Linda took radiation treatments that winter. The rest of her life she still enjoyed family, camping, fishing, hunting and traveling. When the grandsons were older, they would also travel with them. After Randy’s retirement they started moving back to their home in Merriman.
The last year they were able to attend both of their grandson’s weddings. In March she was diagnosed with cancer again and received treatment until mid-October. She became a great-grandma on November 30 and was able to view many photos of him before the angels came for her on December 3.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Donald and Carlyle.
She is survived by her husband Randy of Merriman, NE, son Chad of Roca, NE, grandsons Hunter (Brook) of Lisbon, IA, Ruger (Ashley) and great grandson Remington John of Stanwood, IA, her brother Terry (Devra) Young of Douglas, WY, Dean (Evy) Young of Fernley, NV, and sister Nancy (Steve) Neuharth of Martin, SD.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established for the Merriman Ambulance Service and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, PO Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.
Linda wished for everyone to keep in your heart family and friends and take a moment occasionally to rest your soul, close your eyes, and enjoy your memories.
