Luella Cozad passed away on April 17, 2019, at Rapid City, SD. She was born on September 21, 1924, to Rudolph and Ida Bruhn. Luella grew up on a farm in the vicinity of Schleswig, Iowa, and graduated from Schleswig High School. She attended and received a baccalaureate degree at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and also received a Masters Degree at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
She married Fred Cozad and they established a home and law practice at Martin, SD. She and her husband were a team, her husband as the lawyer, Luella as the secretary/office manager.
She and her husband were married for over 68 years. They had one daughter, Catherine Cozad Albrecht of Plankinton, SD and three grandchildren, Ferra Kemp, Amy Deichert, and Justin Albrecht, seven great grandchildren, Jaylen Kemp, Jacey Kemp, Jett Kemp, Isabelle Albrecht, Ireland Albrecht, Elodie Deichert and Emmarie Deichert.
Luella was a long-time member of the Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church of Martin, where she served as Choir Director and Church organist for approximately 50 years.
Luella was an accomplished musician and during her college days at Morningside she played in the Sioux City Symphony. During her involvement in the family law practice, she was certified as a Professional Legal Secretary.
After her retirement from the law practice at Martin, Luella and her husband made their home at Westhills Village in Rapid City, SD. She was grateful for having shared the love of her husband and family.
Memorial service was held Tuesday April 23, 2019, 2:00 PM at the Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church in Martin, SD. Inurnment was held in the Martin Community Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church and donations may be sent to Bennett County Funeral Service, PO Box 65, Martin, SD, 57551.
