MARILYN EVA (MOFFATT) SMITH HULTGREN

Marilyn Eva Moffatt Smith Hultgren of Chadron Nebraska passed away July 14th at Crestview Care Center, at the age of 71.

Marilyn was born to the late Clarence G and Betty J (Powell) Moffatt in Alliance Nebraska, on February 21, 1954. Marilyn has two siblings, sisters Cherilyn Beaver and Marietta Richardson. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1972. She later went on and took classes from Chadron State College and Western Nebraska Community College in Sidney Nebraska.

She married Alan D. Smith in February 1972. They relocated to Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, New Mexico. To this union three children were born. Tracie Marie (Mullendore), Cristi Erin (Ellexson) and Justin Alan. She later married Gary Hultgren on August 4th, 2007 with whom she shared 10 years of marriage with until his death in July of 2017.

Marilyn had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Harrison and Crawford. She had worked at the museum in Harrison for the Sioux County Historical Society. She enjoyed delving into history which created a deeper love for genealogy and local history. She had also been a member of the Sunbonnet Sue Extension Club in Harrison. She was active in Sioux County 4-H program, serving as a club leader for many years. She enjoyed cooking and made sure that it was clear that all three of her kids knew how to cook as well as to know basic sewing.

Marilyn had grown up doing many different things. She worked at a floral shop, served as a candy striper, worked in the Elite Theatre with her siblings and father. She also was a medical receptionist for a time. Above all she was a much-loved daughter, sister, mother, sister-in-law aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and wife.

Marilyn raised her three children to always believe that they could achieve any goal they set. To always be respectful as well as caring. She always believed

there was good in everyone. Help those who may not be able to help themselves. Lastly do whatever makes you happy.

Marilyn leaves behind her children: Tracie(William) Mullendore of Wynnewood, Okalahoma, Cristi (Ken) Ellexson of Tescott, Kansas and Justin Smith of Crawford, Nebraska. Her three grandchildren Cade and Kassodie Ellexson of Tescott, Kansas and Taleena Davies of South Dakota. Two great grandchildren. Sisters Cheri Beaver and Marietta (Frank) Richardson of Crawford, Nebraska. Step-daughters Kacie (Peter) Kim and Jaimie Hultgren and step-grandson, Sven Kim. Sister-in-law Nancy (Tim) Hasbargen of Minnesota.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Betty Moffatt, Aunts – Helen Britton and Eveyln Bowker. Husband- Gary Hultgren and Great Nephew- Lyndon Parker

Pallbearers – Justin Smith, Ken Ellexson, William Mullendore, Frank Richardson, Cade Ellexson, Krystopher Biernacki, Drake Parker, Jaiden Lucas, Joshua Lucas, Riley Richardson and Ty Huss.
