Marvin Farmer

November 9, 1940 — June 16, 2023

Marvin Leroy Farmer, 82, passed away on June 16th, 2023 at Monument Health in Rapid City, SD. after a valiant fight with cancer.

Marvin was born on November 9, 1940 to Roy and Lillian (Jacobs) Farmer in rural Tuthill, SD. He was the fourth of six children. Marvin grew up in Tuthill where his mom ran the local post office and convenience store in the back of their home. Marvin was known to have a sweet tooth and was known to sneak candy and treats from the store.

As a teenager he worked as a ranch hand around the area. While working at the Bowring Ranch outside Merriman, NE he met his future wife Maxine Noble. She attended the local high school there. Marvin was very fun loving and quite the prankster. In later years he loved to share all of his stories about going to rodeos and dances with friends and family.

Marvin and Maxine were married on November 9, 1963. He always joked that they got married on his birthday so he wouldn’t ever forget the date. They had two children, a son Rex born in 1964 and a daughter Twila born in 1969. They were proudly married for almost 60 years.
Marvin and Maxine moved to Merriman, NE when he accepted a job at the local grain elevator. He worked there until his retirement in early 2000’s. Eventually they decided to sell their home there and make their permanent residence in Rapid City, SD.

Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Marvin would tell you his smart wit and endless sense of humor continually created smiles. Whether he was whittling diamond willow canes or enjoying coffee and cribbage with friends, he will always be remembered for the light and love his presence brought those around him. Just as his loyalty for the Colorado Rockies and Kansas City Chiefs never faded, neither did his courage and fighting spirit. And just as Marvin would have wanted us to know we’re sure he’s “finer than frog hair” watching over us.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lillian (Jacobs) Farmer, his sisters, Donna Jackson and Joyce Tutsch and his brother David Farmer. He is survived by his wife, Maxine (Noble) Farmer, his children Rex (Melissa) Farmer, Twila (Dee) Walker; his grandchildren, Tyler (Lauren) Farmer, Trey (Tiffany) Farmer, Ashton Walker; and his great-grandchildren, Grant Farmer, Blake Farmer, Walter Farmer, Oliver Farmer and Theodore Farmer; his sisters Shirley Claussen and Marilyn Brooks; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Rushville, NE, on Thursday, June 29th, at 10:00 am. Following the service luncheon will be served at the Morse Memorial Methodist Church, Rushville, NE.
