Marvin Hanks

August 31, 1931 — January 31, 2014

Marvin was born to Vera Kusel Hanks and Henry Hanks on August 31, 1931 and was a native of the Whitney/Chadron area all his life with the exception of his last two years of life when he resided in Louisiana with his daughter and her family (and dog Mandy who kept him company.) He was married to Susan Wallingford Hanks until her death in 1989. Together they had two surviving children, Jeff Hanks of Debary, Florida and Jenifer Ibach of Carencro, Louisiana (as well as son-in-law Rick Ibach). Marvin retired from Chicago Northwestern Railroad after 30 plus years of work and also served in the National Guards. He has five grandchildren, Dustin, Tyler and Jared Hanks, all of Debary, Florida and Samantha Cavanaugh (and husband Mark) of Scott, Louisiana and Kayla Ibach of Carencro, Louisiana as well as his first great granddaughter from Samantha to be born in his birthday month of August 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife Susan; parents Vera and Henry; two sisters Marjorie Hanks and Betty Coryell and brother-in-law Bill Coryell as well as other dear relatives. Although he is truly missed, he has gone on to meet his Heavenly Father, beloved wife, and relatives and friends as God has so wonderfully planned. Marvin was particular to the point in anything he set out to accomplish and so did. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could construct and build just about anything he put his mind and might to do and there was no stopping him. He was one of those true old-timers that had a hard work ethic and the more hard work the better. The list could go on and on of the wonderful things he made but he most specifically built his home over the course of several years, working to build it after working a long workday and then going to the site to build his family home taking advantage of longer daylight hours in the summer months. There was no stopping hard work for Marvin and he accomplished all he set out to do. Marvin cherished all his family and also his friends of younger years but spoke always of two special friends his last years and was so grateful for their company, that being Dick Serres and Don Dehaven.
