Marvin Kampbell Obituary

Marvin Eugene Kampbell age 87of Hay Springs, Nebraska was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 18, 2025. At his request cremation has taken place. Burial will be in the Hemingford cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Camp Norwesca at Chadron NE. or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Marvin was born on December 27, 1937 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Henry and Elizabeth (Zitterkopf) Kampbell, german immigrants from Russia. He was the fifth of thirteen children. He grew up during hard times working with his family in the sugar beet fields, bean fields, and potato fields, thinning beets on hands and knees, pulling and hoeing weeds, hand harvesting potatoes and hand pulling, piling and topping sugar beets. He knew what hard work was all about from a very early age.

His family lived on numerous farms in the Platte river valley before locating to the Hemingford area. He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1955. After high school he volunteered for the draft and was drafted into the army in February of 1956. He served in the United States Army stationed in France while on active duty for two years then in the Army Reserve until February 1962. After being honorably discharged from active duty he worked for local farmers and at the local grain elevator in Hemingford. He served his community as a Hemingford city councilman and as a member of the Hemingford volunteer fire department including leading the department as fire chief.

His love of fishing and hunting led him to pursue a career with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and in 1969 he was employed as a game warden and his childhood dream had became a reality. He was honored by the Shikar Safari Club International when he was chosen Wildlife Officer of the year for the State of Nebraska in 1981. He worked his entire career in the same duty station in northwest Nebraska for 32 years until his retirement.

During his employment at the grain elevator in Hemingford he met the love of his life and was united in marriage to Eloise J. Forsstrom on February 19, 1966 in the Methodist church in Hemingford Nebraska. From this union came four children, a daughter Janet and twin sons Terry and Larry who all passed into the arms of their Heavenly father shortly after birth, daughter Amy, his pride and joy made his family complete. Marvin leaves this world knowing how much God blessed him when he found his loving and devoted wife Eloise. Since his retirement he has devoted his life to his family and his heavenly father. His daughter Amy, her husband Kevin and grand children Carli and Kurt along with his wife Eloise have made his life a very happy and complete one. He was a member of the United Methodist Church for over fifty years. He took great pride in being a life member of the NRA and long time member of the Mason's and a Shriner.

His work with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission afforded him the opportunity to become friends with many people from throughout the state of Nebraska and surrounding states. He established lifelong friendships that brought countless hours of hunting and fishing opportunities he so greatly treasured. From a very early age he was fascinated by the wildlife he encountered and never tired of being in the outdoors observing and learning all he could about them and he spent countless hours fishing the waterways and lakes in the sand hills and western Nebraska.

Some of his most fond memories were of the fishing trips he made with his daughter Amy as she was growing up and later with his brothers and nephews in nearby states and Alaska. Going to the field on hunting opportunities and fishing days with his grand children as they were growing up were always a very special time.

He is survived by Eloise, his loving wife of 59 years, his daughter Amy, her husband Kevin Schneider and grand children Carli and Kurt Schneider all of Columbus, NE. He is also survived by brothers Paul at Rockport TX, and John (Kathy) at Omaha NE, sisters Lucille Erickson, at Los Angeles, CA, and Linda Luce, at Hemingford NE sisters-in-law Karla Kampbell, at Ft Collins, CO, and Vivian Kampbell

at Stratford, OK. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his parents, his infant daughter Janet and infant twin sons Terry and Larry, brothers Donald, Kenneth, Robert, infant brother David and sisters Eldora Schumacher, Evelyn Jensen, Barbara Munger, Rebecca Morriss, sisters-in-law Darlene Kampbell and Donna Kampbell, brothers-in-laws Glen Munger, Kenneth Luce, Harlan Erickson and Gary Morriss and nephews Shane Morriss, Henry Kampbell.
