Mary (Anderson) Weyers, 87, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at the PEO Home in Beatrice, Nebraska.
She was born on September 29, 1937 in Osceola, Nebraska to Herman and Evelyn Anderson. She had one older brother, Herm. Mary attended school in Osceola, Nebraska and then went to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and graduated with her teaching degree. While at the University, she went on a blind date with a man named Orval. Upon graduation, Mary began teaching in Oshkosh, Nebraska. Mary and Orval married June 17, 1961 and lived on the family farm in Hay Springs, Nebraska. To this union six children were born; four died shortly after birth. Neal and Sonya lived.
Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Church and St. Columbkille Catholic Church. She was the leader of the Wrangler’s 4-H club and was a member of PEO and Stitch and Bitch. She taught Home Economics at Hay Springs High School.
She adored her family and delighted in attending their activities. She and her husband took many trips. In her retirement, she especially enjoyed quilting and the companionship of her quilting friends.
Mary moved to the PEO Home in Beatrice, Nebraska in 2018. She reveled in her time there and made many dear friends. Her bestie at the PEO Home was also named Mary and she referred to her as “the other Mary”. She received excellent care and we are immensely grateful to the staff who showed her such love and comfort.
Mary relished the challenge of getting all the “goody” out of something before discarding it. This was another reason why she and Orval were a good pair. Her glass was always half-full. Mary was a kind, caring, loving lady who leaves a warm, heart-shaped hole in each of us.
Mary was preceded in death by her four babies who died shortly after birth: Catherine, Stephen, William, Sheila and her husband, Orval.
She is survived by her children: Neal (Twila) Weyers, Sonya (Jerry) Robinette, and four grandsons: Austin (Morgan) Weyers, Garrett (Ashley) Weyers, JJ Jara and Jacob Jara. She is survived by three great grandchildren: Forrie Weyers and Calli and Rex Jara. Mary is further survived by her brother, Herman (Lucie) Anderson.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 26, at 10am at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. Lunch will follow in the church basement and then burial at Sacred Heart Church in Mirage Flats. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lister-Sage Community Center or the PEO Home.
It will be lived streamed though St. Leo Catholic Church, Gordon, NE Website.
