Funeral services for Mary Ann Holmquist will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, Nebraska, with Dr. Russ Seger Officiating. A committal service will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, Nebraska, following the funeral services.
Mary Ann Holmquist passed away peacefully with family by her side, on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, NE. Mary Ann was born on July 23, 1933 to Henry and Marie (Joba) Huttmann, at their family farm home near Bloomfield, Nebraska. She was baptized at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, in Bloomfield on July 22, 1934, and confirmed on April 14, 1946. She attended country School District 111, and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1950. Mary Ann started working right out of high School for Attorney Leo Williams, and at the City Clerk's office for two years.
Mary Ann married Richard Holmquist on May 11, 1952 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, in Bloomfield. To this union they had two sons, Curtis Lee and Steven Craig. They lived in Wausa, NE, Plattsmouth, NE, and Fairfield, NE, before moving to Ravenna, NE. Mary Ann worked at the Ravenna News for 5 years, and Henningsen’s Foods for 27 years as part-time bookkeeper. She enjoyed bowling and golfing until she was not able to continue. She enjoyed attending their sons’ activities. Mary Ann was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ravenna, NE.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ernest, William, Helmut, and Emil; and sisters Anna and Emma.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard; sons Curtis (Mary) of Chadron, NE, and Steve (Lisa) of Lincoln, NE; sister Frieda Lemke of Peoria, AZ; grandchildren, Dionne (Chris) Holmquist of Hesperus, CO, Courtney (Craig) Stewart of Chadron, NE, Collin (Alicia) Holmquist of Omaha, Alec Holmquist of Boulder, CO, and Laurel (Miles) Grigsby of Overland Park, KS; and great-grandchildren, Rocco Stewart of Chadron, NE, and Rosie Holmquist of Omaha, NE.
She loved her family to the fullest, telling them each day how much she loved them, and showed it in many ways. She will be missed by many.
