Michael Joseph Baer was born on June 4, 1951 in Denver, Colorado to Joe M. and Joan N. Baer. He graduated from Hemingford High School in 1969. In July of 1969, he married Linda Campbell and had they had two children together, a son Chris and a daughter Amy. Mike worked as the assistant manager/manager at three different Co-op Elevators in Chugwater, Wyoming, Ogallala, Nebraska, and Hemingford, Nebraska. Mike was also the mayor of the Village of Hemingford for numerous years. Mike decided to leave the grain and agriculture business to pursue his own business in carpentry. In August of 2003, Mike married Marceen Nichols and became the step father to Ted Nichols. Mike loved to cook and bake for friends and family. He also had a love for gardening and canning and loved to share with all. He was well known for his giving nature, whether he shared recipes or home improvement tips. Mike was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a longtime Denver Broncos and Huskers fan, and loved spending time with family and friends. Mike passed away at his home in Chadron on March 2, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by daughter, Kelly Lynn Baer and his father, Joe M. Baer. He is survived by his wife, Marceen Nichols and son Ted Nichols (Toni Krotz) of Chadron; Mother, Joan N. Baer of Osmond, Nebraska; Brother Jim (Cindy) of Ulysses, Kansas; Son, Chris Baer of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Daughter, Amy (Rick) Demarest of Rapid City, South Dakota; Granddaughters, Jessica and Allison Baer of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Julia Demarest of Rapid City, South Dakota; Nephew, William Baer of Hemingford, Nebraska; Niece April Nelson of Kearney, Nebraska and first wife, Linda Baer of Ballwin, Missouri. Mike wanted no formal services, however a celebration of his life will he held pending arrangements by his family. Memorials and cards may be sent to the family at 177 Lake St., Chadron, NE 69337.
