Morris Turnbull

Maurice Eugene Turnbull died on Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was born on September 16, 1956 in Gordon, Nebraska to Maurice and Alice Turnbull. As a boy growing up he lived with his family on a ranch in Gordon. At the age of 4, his family and he moved to a farm southwest of Hay Springs, Nebraska. Maurice attended Antelope Valley District 44 grade school. Hay Springs High school was the site of his high school graduation. The four years he was there he was his freshman class president, played on an undefeated freshman and sophomore football team and he also wrestled, winning several class C championships in the 138 and 155 weight classes. Morris also participated in track, and then golf after his knees kept his out of the other sports. He was Outstanding Teen of America. He hand drawn hawk found in the old gym was one his contributions to the school. After graduation he was involved with farming and ranching his entire life. He was an active member in the Old Time Cowboys Association of Gordon. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and won best in show with his artwork while in grade school at the county fair. He loved horses and anything outdoors. Survivors include his children Holly, Heather, and Brand. Holly and Heather reside in Scottsbluff and Brand lives in Decatur, Texas; two grandchildren, Keanna Turnbull and Desmunde Smith; his mother Alice Turnbull of Chadron; brother Chuck (Vicki) Turnbull of Casper, Wyoming; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Maurice, sisters LaDonna and Vonna. The family suggests memorials to the Hay Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
