Obituary of Muriel A. McDonnell Muriel Amber McDonnell, age 95, passed away Feb 8th 2015, at Bennett County Hospital in Martin, South Dakota, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be February 15, 2015, from 4 to 5pm at Bennett County Funeral Service, Main Street, Martin SD. Services will be held Monday, February 16, 2015, at 10:00 am at the New American Legion, Martin, South Dakota. Burial will be held at Martin Community Cemetery. Muriel A. (Lesher) McDonnell was born Oct. 19, 1919 in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Henry & Amber (Barker) Lesher. At the age of 3 she moved with her family back to the United States, settling in Nickerson, Nebraska. They later moved to Gordon, Nebraska, where she graduated salutatorian of her class. As a young woman, she gave of her passion and talent, teaching in many rural schools. Muriel married Clifford L McDonnell, on June 15, 1940. To this union three children were born, Marjory, Dale & Karen. She put her career on hold to raise her family. They spent their lifetime ranching, eventually moving to the Lacreek Ranch south of Martin. They lived there until their retirement in 1998 when they moved to Martin. The greatest joy in her life was her family. She was active in extension club and enjoyed her flower garden, quilting, playing card, and the many years she and Cliff square danced. Survivors include her children: Marjory (Bob) Bucholz, Dale (Bonnie) McDonnell, & Karen (Jim) Selken ; grandchildren: Lana (Justin) Cano, Wade (Beth) Bucholz, Curt (Amelia) McDonnell, David (Danielle) McDonnell, Carrie (Scott) Larson, Heather (Matt) Leon, Shanna Casey & JR Kries, Aaron (Amber) Selken, 21 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Bennett County Senior Citizen Center and donations may be sent in care of Bennett County Funeral Service, PO Box 65 Martin, SD 57551.
