Nadine Ann Belmont Henschel, age 86, of Martin, SD passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2024.
Nadine was born June 12, 1937, to Roy and Florence (Davis) Belmont of Hill City, SD. She grew up on a farm near Hill City. She had seven siblings and attended Elementary through High School in Hill City. She continued her education attending a three-year nursing program at St. John’s Hospital in Rapid City, SD. Where she met her husband, Edward Henschel. After graduating as a registered nurse, she and Eddie moved to Martin to Eddie’s family’s farm and began farming. Nadine worked as a nurse at the hospital for several years in Martin. Nadine continued to work as a nurse as she and Eddie started a family. Three daughters and a son were born: Carmen, Kim, Tom, and Freida.
Nadine enjoyed taking care of her yard and gardening in the summer months. She continued nursing at the hospital and later worked at the Martin Clinic and Martin Grade School. As the children grew older, she soon worked on the farm and stayed home with her family. She was famous for running around in the winter months in her shorts and sweatshirt shopping, and working her cleaning jobs, including the Presbyterian Church and the local bowling alley. She also babysat for several families when her grandchildren were young. She cared for her mother-in-law, Alice Henschel for several years until her passing. She was a member of Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband Eddie Henschel of Martin, and children: Carmen (Dave) Morrison, Kim (Kyle) Harris, Thomas Henschel, and Freida Henschel. Grandchildren, Kalen (Heather)Harris, Klay (Kasi)Harris, Kelsie (Luke) Meeks, Layne (Ami) Livermont, Rayel Livermont, Thane Henschel, and Weston Henschel. Great-grandchildren, Jace, Harley, Kade, Dean, Koby, Rhyder, Narley, Radley, Blair, and Bryar. A brother, William (Gail) Belmont. Extended family, Earl and Rachel Adair and family, Samantha Henry, and Amy Kirk.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Florence Belmont; brothers, Calvin, and Milo (Bud) Belmont; sisters, Francis (Louis) Pettit, Pat (Bill) Smith, Noreene (Dave) Guiser, and Linda (Melvin) Hiermeier: Son in law Kyle (Kim) Harris; grandchildren, Kellan Harris, and Brady Livermont; and niece Pam Pettit.
A memorial has been established for the Black Hills Works of Rapid City, SD. Donations may be sent in care of Security First Bank, PO Box 669, Martin, SD 57551.
