Nicolette Horn, née Serbousek, born on March 9, 1956, in Rushville, Nebraska, passed away on April 8, 2026, at Chadron Hospital surrounded by her family after an extended battle with cancer. Her passing marks the loss of a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend who touched the lives of many with her warmth and dedication.
Nicolette’s life was deeply rooted in family and community. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Cory and son in law DeWayne. Her family extended further to include her niece Amy Scherbarth and daughter, nephews Anton Scherbarth and his wife Holly and their children, as well as Justin and his wife Stephanie and their children. She cherished numerous other grandchildren,nieces, nephews, and their families who enriched her life with their presence and love.
Her close-knit bond extended to her siblings, including her sister Shaeleen and husband Darrin with their children, and her brothers Tony Serbousek and Russell Serbousek. She also held a special connection with her brother-in-law James Scherbarth, all of whom mourn her loss alongside the greater family circle.
Nicolette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lyle Horn; her parents Ed Serbousek and Marlene Russell; sisters Roseann Scherbarth and Natalie Fernau; her brother Troy Serbousek; grandson Jayden Gunter; great-grandson River Gunter; and nephews Michael Fernau and Cody Rugge. Their memories remain cherished by those who loved her.
Throughout her life, Nicolette held a great passion for cooking, gardening, fishing, and was a fervent supporter of Hay Springs High School sports, always showing her spirited enthusiasm. Her love for her family and friends was profound, and her nurturing nature left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Nicolette’s family honors her life and requests that those who wish to remember her consider donations to the Circle of Light, a cause very dear to her heart. These contributions can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel.
Nicolette Horn’s memory will endure in the hearts of many, a testament to a life lived with love, passion, and an unyielding devotion to her family and community. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
