Paul Nelson

PAUL NELSON Paul Rupert Nelson, 85, was born in Comstock, Nebraska, September 29, 1928, to Melvin and Helen Nelson. Paul died April 25, 2014 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Later on the family settled in the Bennett County area of South Dakota. Paul was the 3rd child of 6 children, born into a farming family a short distance west of Martin. "He said he had to walk 3 miles to school everyday with no shoes on." He graduated from Bennett County High School. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. He went into the Navy in 1946 and served for 7 years. During that time he married Mary Ann Moore and to that union 4 children were born, Terry, Candi, Dick and Lori. During his life Paul loved hunting, fishing and time with his family. He made knives, reloaded shells and started flying at a young age. He flew crop duster planes for 40 years. He was also a small business owner. He left behind his wife, 4 children, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He was loved by his family and he will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014, 10:00 AM at the New American Legion in Martin, SD. Burial will be held later at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. A memorial has been established and donations may be sent in care of Bennett County Funeral Service PO Box 65 Martin, SD 57551.
