Peggy Ann was born in a farmhouse southeast of Gordon, NE on August 25, 1940. She passed away at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, NE, on July 5, 2026.
Peggy was the finishing touch to Thomas and Allie Aspinall’s family of six. Family meant everything to her, both in childhood and adult life. She grew up with numerous cousins and had wonderful memories of times spent with them. Sunday dinners with family were a common tradition, as were family reunions.
Peggy started school at Valley Union country school and finished elementary school at Clinton because they moved to “the farm” south of Clinton. After graduating from Gordon High School in 1957, she attended Chadron State College to pursue teaching. She taught a few years before attending a business school in Rapid City, SD. Peggy soon realized that her passion was for teaching elementary children, so she resumed employment as a teacher. Throughout her teaching career, she taught at country schools south of Hay Springs and Chadron as well as public schools in Gordon, Clinton, Kimball, and Rapid City.
In the fall of 1972, Peggy attended a farm auction to meet a man who had inquired about her through one of her uncles. In the spring of 1973, Peggy married Ray Reimann. She gave up teaching to be a full-time farm wife and moved south of Hay Springs to build their life together. To this union was born Larel, Cara, Bret, and Shannon.
Peggy was a devoted wife and mother as well as a grandmother later in life. She worked alongside Ray through the years as they raised hogs, sheep, and cattle along with various field crops. Like many farm wives, she fulfilled the roles of hired hand, cook & maid, gardener & lawn maintenance, seamstress, childcare provider, private tutor, and errands/parts runner to name a few.
In her later years, physical limitations and health conditions kept her from being able to help much outside; it was a difficult adjustment for her to be “stuck” in the house. Completely helpless against the cruel progression of vascular dementia, Peggy eventually had to rely on her family not only for physical care, but also to help her recall details & precious memories.
Peggy is survived by her husband Ray; children Larel (Megan) Reimann of Hay Springs, Cara Reimann of Hay Springs, Shannon (Derik) Underwood of Alliance, NE; grandchildren Ava, Cade, Burr, Elly, Gus, & Bristol; sister Doris Chaney of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law Leland Reimann of Ogallala, NE; nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.
She was welcomed to heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is finally able to hold her son, Bret, and joins her parents Tom & Allie Aspinall, in-laws Henry & Leona Reimann, sister Donna Wilson, brother Gary Aspinall, sister-in-law Karla Reimann, and nephew Mike Chaney.
There will be a private memorial service Monday, July 13th, at Hay Springs Cemetery, followed by refreshments and fellowship open to the public at Hay Springs Senior Center at 2:00 PM.
A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association . Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
