Albert Ray Mansfield passed away at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota, on July 28, 2022. Ray was born on December 15, 1944, in Gordon, Nebraska, the second son of John A. and Eulalia B. Mansfield.
He attended Pass Creek Elementary School for eight years and graduated from Bennett County High School in 1962. Ray attended college at South Dakota State University and Black Hills State University. He taught at a country school for one year before entering the U.S. Army in 1968. Ray served in Vietnam for 15 months and he was honorably discharged in 1970. He returned to Bennett County where he farmed and ranched the remainder of his life.
Ray was devoted to his community by serving on the FSA Board, The Martin Community Cemetery Board, the American Legion Post #240, Masonic Pioneer Lodge 219 and Order of the Eastern Star.
He was preceded in death by his father John A. Mansfield. He is survived by his mother Eulalia B. Mansfield, two brothers, Jack (Betty) Mansfield of Ord, Nebraska, and Bill (Jane Anne) Mansfield of Martin, South Dakota. Ray will be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 1, 2022, 10:00 AM at the New American Legion in Martin, SD, with Pastor Lisa Danielson officiating. Military and Masonic rites will be presented at the Martin Community Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Martin Community Cemetery and donations may be sent to Bennett County Funeral Service, PO Box 65, Martin, SD 57551.
