Richard O'Donnell

Richard O'Donnell, 92, died October 21, 2022, at Crestview Care Center. He was born May 3, 1930, in Pringle, South Dakota, the son of Patrick and Bertha O'Donnell. He and his three brothers and four sisters grew up on the family ranch north of Chadron.

Richard graduated from Chadron High School, Class of 1951. Following graduation, he worked at the home place. He also worked at Chadron Sale Barn for 17 years and for Chadron Schools until he retired.

He married Shirley Abold on October 1, 1970, in Martin South Dakota. They celebrated 52 years of marriage on October 1. They were blessed with 7 children.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his brothers, Bob, John, sister Patty and grandson Augustus (Gus).

He is survived by his wife Shirley; his children Richard (Chrissy) O’Donnell of Oglala South Dakota, Sheila Griffith (Nick) Woods of Yankton South Dakota, Lewis (Jeannie) O’Donnell of Chadron Nebraska, Bertha (John) Sayaloune, of Scottsbluff Nebraska, Heidi (Jim) Cushing of Gordon Nebraska, Joe (Linnea) O’Donnell of Gordon Nebraska, George (Michelle) O’Donnell of Chadron Nebraska; his sisters Mary Wolvington, Jean Schuhmacher, Alice Lorenzen, and brother Tom O’Donnell, and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron Nebraska.
