Robert Williams

Robert Anthony Williams

Robert was born on November 25, 1955

He was born in Grand Island, Ne. To Orville and Kathleen Williams and just like that Micheal became the big brother. Robert was the 2nd of 5 children, Micheal, Rober, then a small gap in time and Doug, Deanna, and Randy. I would say with 5 children in the household they had their hands full. In 1956 the then family of four moved to Chadron, Ne. They lived at 233 Mears St. it was the house we all knew and loved as our home.

Roberts youth growing up in Chadron was like a (right of passage) We grew up with tons of neighborhood kids. He would leave the house right after breakfast and chores to play outside until the street light came on or Mom hollered for dinner. Every holiday where always a trip back to Grand Island to visit the Grandparents, all seven of us on a road trip that took 8 hours was full of lasting memories again Orville and Kathleen had their hand full. We arrived at our Grandparents, beautiful home tucked deep inside the town of Grand Island. We all had our hearts filled up with input from Aunts and Uncles and lots of cousins.

As Roberts got older in his teen years, to make his own money. He got a paper route, his was all of Mears St. both sides. He was great at getting his papers all folded up and tucked into his big bag strapped across his body and riding on his bike to sling those papers at every door. As he got older it was important to do things the way he saw fit, he was happiest having people accept him as he was.

He made a deal with Dad, if he got his GED he could work with Don Halstead the owner of Allied Van Lines (a moving company). He went over the road and got quite the worldly education, he went from the West coast to the East exploring the whole USA. Micheal was just getting out of bootcamp and was stationed in California, Robert saw this as his way to explore a new journey. He lived out there for about four years. Bob came back to Chadron and worked several jobs. He worked on the Rail Road laying track, roofing out of Alliance and in Scottsbluff. He did tree trimming and clean up after storms. His working years were very physical.

Robert was an avid Nebraska Corn Husker fan, he would hoot and haller at the games with the best of them. He made it down to Lincoln when he could, but he made sure to watch the game at the local bar with all his friends. He loved the family rivalry with his brother Dougs family Ohio State fans and shared great memories between them, once decoration a van one side Corn Husker the other side Ohio State making the game even funner to experience. Robert also enjoyed a good game of disk golf he would play the course at the State park regularly.

At this time we would like to personally, Thank our brother for the love and care he gave to our parents. Roberts was there for them at every appointment, every trip to the Veterans hospital in Hot Springs, SD. He helped nurse Dad back from a quad duple bypass and a stroke. He helped Mom through both knee replacement and hips. All the time caring for the house, car and working at Hellen’s to say he was a hard worker with a great big heart. ♥ Rest in peace and know that you are loved.
