Memorial Services for Ronnie L. Dyer of Crawford, Nebraska will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Crawford Community Building in Crawford, Nebraska. Burial will be held at Crawford City Cemetery in Crawford, Nebraska.
Ronnie Lavern Dyer, 78, husband to late wife Carolyn Lee Dyer of Lusk, passed away Saturday, February 25th, 2023, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.
Ronnie was born October 23, 1944, in Chadron NE to Weldon and Aline Dyer (Hamaker). Ronnie attended Belmont Elementary School from kindergarten through the eighth grade and moved on to attend Crawford High School graduating in 1962. He then worked for various ranchers and other odd jobs until being drafted into the Army. Ron received his draft notice October 18, 1966 and was stationed in Fort Bliss Texas for basic training. He then moved to bases in California, Illinois, and Massachusetts serving in the payroll department. While in the service Ron earned a shooting award and was awarded top student. He was honorably discharged October 19, 1968. Ron then began his college career in the Black Hills of South Dakota studying business before transferring to Chadron State College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. Wherever Ronnie was whether it be college or the service, Crawford was always home. Ronnie married Carolyn L. Robinson on March 19, 1970. They were blessed with two children Torie and Lex. In December of 1973 they moved to a ranch off Sawlog Road in which he had always dreamed of living. Ronnie’s teaching career of 37 years were spent at Crawford High School teaching Business. After retiring from teaching, he returned to being a full-time rancher. Ron was a member of the Crawford Rural Fire Board serving as its president for almost 40 years. During this time, he and others worked tirelessly to bring about the construction of the desperately needed new fire hall. He received great satisfaction in the success and completion of this much needed project. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, were he served as treasurer for many years. Ron enjoyed participating in saddle bronc riding as well as calf roping when he was younger. His other passion was spending time fishing and hunting every fall with family and friends accompanied by his love for reading and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ronnie was proceeded in death by an infant brother, parents Weldon and Aline and his wife Carolyn. Ronnie is survived by his sister Janice (Emmett) Hale of Crawford, daughter Torie and children Jessica, Tristin, Liam. Son Lex (Katie) Dyer and children Braeden, Bailey, Liam, Eva of Casper Wy.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be sent to the Crawford Fire Department and the United Methodist Church of Crawford. Donations can be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
